Designed by the Great Barrington Cottage Company, this apparently
mid-19th-century house doesn't rely on fossil fuel!
The building is sited to take
best advantage of views and
solar exposure.
The Insulating Concrete
Forms are stacked on
footings and filled with
concrete.
Each course of ICF's is fitted
into the row below, allowing
for windows and doors.
The ICF's are reinforced
with steel and concrete is
pumped in.
The gable end walls are
raised with ICF's.
Concrete is pumped to fill
the second-story walls.
ICF07
ICF work is complete.
Rafters are set on the
completed ICF structure.
Staggered-seam metal is a
traditional roofing for a
19th-century New England
Greek Revival home.
Below the clapboard siding,
the ICF foundation is faced
with cut stone to complete
the traditional exterior.
The beauty and history of
mid-19th-century style
meets the efficiency and
quality of 21st-century
technology.
